Extended information:

1. University of California:

The University of California is a university administrative system consisting of 10 public universities in California. It is also the most influential public university system in the world and is known as the “model of public higher education”.

The University of California originated in the College of California in Oakland, California in 1853. On March 23, 1868, the University of California was officially renamed the University of California, and the University of California was formally established.

In 1873, the school moved to a new location outside of Auckland, and to commemorate one of the greatest philosophers of the 18th century, George Berkeley, the new university town was named "Berkeley City." At this time, the University of California is equivalent to the "University of California (Berkeley)", and gradually opened a branch campus in Los Angeles, Davis and other places.

In 1952, "University of California" was separated from the "University of California at Berkeley" as an administrative system, no longer as a university. At the same time, the former California University campus in California has gradually been upgraded to a separate university with Berkeley.

Today, the University of California has evolved into a giant university system with 10 public universities and a profound impact on the world, including the famous "UC Berkeley", "University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA)" and "University of California, San Diego" (UCSD)", and so on. (Note: Today's University of California does not have a so-called "main campus", "sub-school" is only a Chinese translation misunderstanding left over from history)

The University of California is the world's largest university federation, and its universities are among the best in academic indicators and rankings. These campuses are independent and closely linked, each of which exists as an independent university, forming a UC university that is renowned throughout the United States and around the world.

2. Historical evolution:
The University of California originated in 1853 at the private College of California in Oakland. In 1866, the Standing Committee of the California Parliament decided to establish a new "Agricultural, Mining, and Mechanical Technology Institute" under the Morrill Act signed by President Lincoln, but suffered from the lack of a suitable campus. The California College is lacking funding for running a school.

Later, people thought of combining the two to create a comprehensive university. In 1868, the governor of California signed a bill to establish the University of California on the site of a private California college. Five years later, the school moved to a new campus four miles away.

At the time, to commemorate George Berkeley, a sage who traveled to North America to spread religion and culture in North America, the city where the new campus was located was named "Berkeley", and the University of California was equivalent at this time. The University of California (Berkeley) and Berkeley also became the origins and the earliest campuses of the University of California.

(Note: Today's University of California is not a university but an administrative system. There is no such thing as a “main campus.” The “branch school” is just a misunderstanding of Chinese translations left over from history. Each campus is an independent university. )

With the rise and reputation of the University of California at Berkeley, the city called Berkeley is also famous in the world. California's economic and demographic development has only made it difficult for a California university in the Berkeley region to meet the growing needs of society, and California's vast geographic and urban distribution has determined that the University of California is not limited to running in Berkeley.

So the University of California later set up nine campuses in different regions, which led to the formation of the University of California system, a giant university system headed by the Berkeley campus.
